What started as a solo project for small-town singer, Jamila Grace transformed over the pandemic into GRXCE, an indie rock band comprised of university classmates and strangers plucked from Facebook. While Jamila’s humble beginnings landed her triple j airplay and a combined 40K streams across her two releases, the creation of GRXCE gives space for a whole new sound with band members Alex Berger (drums), Emily Elvish (bass), and Jonathan Amirzaian (guitar) bringing their own instrumental and creative inspirations to the table.
The band have hit two for two with tracks 'Pretty Boy' & 'Family Traditions' being met with rave reviews with triple j's Home & Hosed presenter, Ash McGregor naming Jamila's storytelling as "unparalleled" and Backseat Mafia making bold, but accurate, claims that GRXCE is "grunge pop at its very best". Both tracks were produced by Fletcher Matthews who was behind The Buoys' triple j Hottest 100 landing track 'Bad Habit' and it is clear this producer/artist combo is a winner. 2023 has seen GRXCE welcome triple j Unearthed rotation, Spotify Editorial playlists & big name support slots for the likes of The Terrys, The Rions, Adam Newling, CLEWS just to name a few, all following on from their own sold-out headline show at Factory Theatre.
The band self-professes that they make “sad music for you to dance to” pairing gossamer melodies and lush hooks with poetically blunt lyrics that explore the wide, ever-changing spectrum of youth, from celebrating the joys of life to tackling the more difficult subjects of heartache, growing up and familial difficulties. Echoing the lyrical finesse of the likes of Julia Jacklin, Lucy Dacus and Holly Humberstone with the indie rock groove that could sit alongside some of Australia’s most beloved bands; Spacey Jane or The Buoys it is clear why GRXCE are an uphill momentum that no-one can slow down. As they continue to dominate the Sydney indie-rock scene embarking on their mammoth 20-date debut East Coast Tour, GRXCE continue to cement themselves in the scene as indie rock up-and-comers that celebrate complex emotions with simplicity and put on one hell of a live show.

“This reminds me of songs I grew up trying to discover on Unearthed and all I wanted was to find an anthem to my teenage angst. Wishing I had this then but stoked it's here for people to connect with.”
Sara Glaidous (triple j Unearthed Community Producer)
"With every release, I fall a little more in love with this band. How could you not with the catchy, intimate indie rock on display?"

"GRXCE's controlled vulnerability gives way to a bigger-hitting chorus that packs some hooky oomph"
Dave Ruby Howe (triple J Music Director)
“It feels like your about to push your way through the front doors of a crowded, smoky band room and engage in some regretful action. But hey that’s what you came for.”
